Agriculture: two funding bands corrected sharply upward

Eleven agriculture, environmental and animal care standards carry a recorded change. Two are funding band corrections and they are substantial: General Farm Worker at Level 2 moved from £5,000 to £8,000, and Livestock Unit Technician at Level 3 from £5,000 to £9,000. Both had been set at a level that made delivery marginal for providers working across dispersed rural employers.

Elsewhere, Forestry Works Manager at Level 4 was approved in February 2025 at £8,000 over 15 months. Detection and Protection Working Dog Specialist at Level 3 was approved in June 2025 at £12,000. Fisher at Level 2 moved to version 1.1. Professional Arboriculturist at Level 6 has an integrated degree version in development.

What it changed from: agricultural standards were among the earliest approved and several kept their original bands for the best part of a decade, through a period when travel costs, assessor time and employer engagement in rural areas all became more expensive.

What follows: the corrections make these programmes viable to deliver again, and providers who withdrew from agricultural provision on cost grounds should revisit the numbers. As with every band change, it applies to starts from the change date only, so learners already on programme continue at the old rate — worth checking your MIS handles both. The route still has no T-Level, with Agriculture, Land Management and Production in development, so foundation apprenticeships and direct entry remain the ways in.
