A new delivery framework for T-Level industry placements

Providers get more latitude to design placements around their students and their local employers.

Updated guidance for providers, published in June 2026, introduces a new delivery framework for T-Level industry placements. It gives providers more scope to determine the structure of a placement in a way that works for their students and local context.

What it changed from: a more prescriptive model set out in the previous guidance, which included an annex on delivery approaches. That annex has been removed and replaced with a set of core principles for industry placements. Example industry placement objective templates for the hair and beauty and catering and hospitality routes were also removed.

The placement itself remains a substantial commitment — around 45 days with an employer — and remains the element providers most often report as the constraint on scaling T-Level delivery.

Supporting funding continues. For 2025/26, T-Level funding included a 5% uplift plus £550 per student towards industry placement costs. The Employer Support Fund continues into 2026/27, helping employers delivering the Health T-Level and SMEs delivering all T-Levels with essential placement costs. T-Levels benefit from nearly £800 million of additional investment in the 2026/27 financial year.

What follows: if your placement model was built around the old annex, it needs revisiting against the core principles instead. The flexibility is real, but it moves judgement onto the provider, which means placement quality and the evidence for it now rest more heavily on local decision-making. DfE is also procuring new T-Level Industry Placement Support Services from September 2026.
